EC to meet on Aug 17 to discuss dates for Sabah state election

KUCHING, Aug 7: The Election Commission (EC) will meet on August 17 in Sabah to discuss important dates concerning the 16th Sabah state election.

According to a press statement from EC secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak today, a special meeting would be held by the commission chaired by EC deputy chairman Azmi Sharom at The Magellan Sutera Resort, Kota Kinabalu.


The special meeting will discuss important dates such as the dates for the writ of election, nomination day and polling day as well as to decide on the electoral rolls to be used and the preparations needed for the state election.

Ikmalrudin disclosed that a press conference will be held by the commission after the special meeting.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal announced the dissolution of the 15th Sabah State Assembly on July 30 to make way for the snap poll in Sabah.

Subsequently on July 31, the EC in a statement disclosed the commission had officially received the writ of the dissolution of the Sabah State Assembly dated July 30.

The Sabah state election must be held within 60 days from the dissolution of the state assembly. — DayakDaily
