KUCHING, Oct 9: The Netherlands has expressed its readiness to collaborate and share expertise with Sarawak in advancing the State’s port development sector.
In a TVS news report, Dutch Ambassador to Malaysia Jacques Jaap Werner said Sarawak’s clear master plan and well-defined vision for port development have drawn the attention of several Dutch companies keen to participate in the State’s growing maritime industry.
“There are a number of companies from the Netherlands with the potential to assist Sarawak in developing its ports and maritime systems,” he said after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, at his office today.
Jacques noted that the scope of cooperation could include port planning, innovation, and the use of advanced software in port management systems.
“We are very excited about Sarawak’s long-term vision for port development, and the Netherlands is ready to work together to help realise it,” he said.
He added that Dutch companies are also open to sharing their extensive experience and best practices with local industry players in Sarawak should a partnership between the two sides take shape.
“We are more than willing to share the Netherlands’ achievements and expertise in modern port system development,” he added.
To date, he revealed, 10 Dutch port-related companies have expressed interest in exploring collaboration opportunities within Sarawak’s port and maritime sector. — DayakDaily
