Needy families in Batu Kawa, Pending receive food aid

KUCHING, Apr 18: Food is being delivered to needy families living on the breadline in Batu Kawa and Pending constituencies today.

Batu Kawah assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the distribution of the food aid, a state government programme, has been carried out smoothly.

“As of today (April 18), Kuching District Office and Kuching District Disaster Management Committee have distributed a total of 6,150 essential goods packages to the needy in Batu Kawa on seven occasions,” he said in a media release.

The committee also received another 1,000 packages of food comprising of rice, cooking oil, flour, biscuits and can food were received for distribution today, he added.

Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Local Government and Housing, said due to the restrictions and measures under MCO in place, community leaders have been tasked to distribute the food to the vulnerable communities throughout Sarawak.

“The food aid are sent to the dootstep of recipients in order to minimise social crowding and contact between people. This is to observe the social distancing requirement during this critical period,” he continued.

Meanwhile, political secretary to the Chief Minister Tan Kai reported that a total of 155 families, mainly from Jalan Selanggan Batu in Pending, here, have received their food aid.— DayakDaily
