Nearly 100 people at an oil palm plantation in Mukah test positive for Covid-19

KUCHING, July 2: A large cluster of 92 Covid-19 cases was discovered at an oil palm plantation under lockdown at KM85 Jalan Mukah-Selangau, thus triggering the Kilometer 85 Cluster in Mukah.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily updates on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today reported that 348 individuals linked to this workplace cluster have been screened, whereby 251 have tested negative for the virus while five are still awaiting their lab test results.

Of the 92 cases, one was admitted to the Bintulu Hospital while the remaining were being isolated and treated at the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Mukah.


A cluster of infections also emerged in a longhouse under lockdown or Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) located at Batu 3, Jalan KJD in Sungai Gamong in Meradong with 13 people tested positive so far.

SDMC revealed that a total of 39 individuals have been screened, whereby 25 tested negative while one is still awaiting lab test results.

All the positive cases have been admitted to Sarikei Hospital and PKRC Sarikei for treatment and isolation.

These two clusters were among the three new clusters declared in Sarawak today. The remaining one was Jalan Sagang Cluster in Bau with 29 cases.

Meanwhile, the State Health Department has declared the end of the Selumit Cluster in Tanjung Manis after no local cases were reported in the past 28 days.

With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak now stands at 97, out of which 15 clusters recorded an increase in daily infections with a total of 82 cases.

They are Kilometer 85 Cluster in Mukah which added 25 more cases, Sungai Gamong Cluster in Meradong (11 cases), Po Ai Cluster in Sri Aman (15 cases), Simpang Koko Cluster in Sarikei (10 cases), Quadruplex Lapan Enam Cluster in Miri and Kampung Sebandi Hilir Cluster in Lundu (5 cases each), Nyelutong Cluster in Betong (4 cases), Muara Tabuan Cluster in Kuching (2 cases), while Jalan Masket Cluster in Sebauh, Nanga Sejugan Cluster in Julau, Mongkos 2 Cluster in Tebedu, Nanga Tada Cluster in Kanowit, Jalan Sungai Antu Cluster in Sibu, Luteng Cluster in Telang Usan, Blimbing Cluster in Bau has one case each. — DayakDaily
