KUCHING, Sept 8: The national-level Malaysia Day celebration will be held at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya on September 16.
According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Julaihi Narawi, who is also the minister responsible for the celebration, said Kuching has been chosen to host the national celebration.
“The celebration is scheduled to start with a pre-performance event at 7pm followed by the official event at 8.30pm with the arrival of His Excellency (TYT), the Acting Governor of Sarawak, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, who will officiate at the event.
“The official Jalur Gemilang raising ceremony will also be the main attraction of the night,” he said when met by reporters at his office today.
On the same note, Julaihi said preparations for the celebration are also going smoothly.
He also said that various preparations have been made, including logistics, security, as well as cultural and entertainment elements that will enliven the celebration to ensure Malaysians can celebrate this historic event with full meaning and spirit of unity while showing the importance of independence and unity in the history of the establishment of Malaysia.
“Wherever they are in Sarawak, Sabah or Peninsular Malaysia, they need to make sure that this year’s celebration is significant because it symbolises the unification of four regions in 1963 involving Malaya, Singapore, Sabah, and Sarawak.
“Although in 1965, Singapore chose to separate from Malaysia, the three regions are still strong as a Malaysian nation today.
“Therefore, I hope that the history of this merger can be appreciated by all walks of life and future generations,” he said.
Among the guests of honour expected to be present are Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail; Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang; and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his wife, Datin Seri Julia Salag.
The celebration will later use the same theme as National Day 2023, which is ‘MADANI Malaysia: The Determination of Unity to Fulfill Hope’, with the addition of the Iban words ‘Segulai Sejalai’. — DayakDaily
