National Covid-19 death toll increases by one to 114

KUCHING, May 19: Malaysia recorded one new death due to Covid-19 today, bringing the national death toll to 114.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the latest victim is a 77-year-old Malaysian woman, who has a history of liver cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure.

She was treated at a hospital in Pahang and died on May 18 at 3.09am.


Dr Noor Hisham also said as of 12 noon today, the country recorded 37 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of confirmed infections in Malaysia to 6,978 since the outbreak began.

“From the 37 cases, two were imported cases from overseas while the remaining 35 where local transmissions. Out of the 35 local transmissions, 22 were non-Malaysians.

“Today, we’ve also discharged 31 patients, bringing the total number of those recovered to 5,646 from Covid-19,” he said at the ministry’s daily briefing in Putrajaya today.

Meanwhile, there are 1,218 active cases still being treated at the country’s health facilities at present.

Dr Noor Hisham added that 11 are currently in intensive care units (ICUs), with six of them requiring ventilators. — DayakDaily
