SIMUNJAN, Jan 22: A 49-year-old man can thank his lucky stars for escaping any injuries when the 4-wheel drive vehicle he was driving almost plunged into the Batang Sadong last night.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, in a statement, said the man was driving alone from Simunjan heading towards Kuching when the incident occurred around 8.15pm.

Firefighters from Simunjan station led by PBK II Trajudin Mail were dispatched to the scene where they found the vehicle at the verge of falling into the river at Simunjan jetty.

However, the man managed to get out from his vehicle before their arrival and he was reportedly safe.

He told the rescuers that he did not realise he had entered the wrong road which took him to the jetty.

Using their fire engine, rescuers proceeded to pull the vehicle to a safer location.

Before leaving the scene, they also advised the man to be careful and stay alert while driving. — DayakDaily
