KUCHING, Oct 20: The two-week campaign period for the 15th General Election (GE15) is sufficient for candidates to move around, especially in rural Sarawak and Sabah where connectivity could be a challenge.
Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said this when welcoming the Election Commission’s (EC) announcement of important election dates earlier today.
“The announcement is what we’ve all been waiting for, and the dates are all clear. We, in GPS, think the dates are well set and the two-week campaign period is sufficient.
“Especially when it comes to rural areas in Sarawak and Sabah, the areas are huge and connectivity is rather difficult. So, the two weeks’ time is enough, not too short and not too long,” he told reporters when approached today.
Nanta, who is also the Kapit incumbent-cum-caretaker Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), said the polling date which is over a month from now also provides sufficient time for voters to make preparations to return to their registered constituencies to vote.
Earlier today, EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh announced that the GE15 nomination day is on Nov 5 and polling day on Nov 19, both Saturdays. — DayakDaily
