SIBU, Feb 20: Nangka constituency now has an additional 2,748 voters aged 18 to 20 following the automatic registration for new voters, said its assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee.

Speaking at the Projek SUARA networking dinner last night, Dr Annuar Rapaee said according to data obtained from the 12th Sarawak Election, the constituency had 23,092 eligible voters.

ā€œThe number is quite large, and those between the ages of 18 and 20 will be voting for the first time in the next general election. These young voters have an important role in determining the direction and future of the country.

“Use the power and rights in your hands to the best of your ability to determine the direction and future of Sarawak,” he urged.

Dr Annuar, who is also the Assistant Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, called on the youth to come forward to voice out new and thoughtful ideas to help the State government propel Sarawak into becoming a developed State by 2030.

“The current government in Sarawak is not only always ready to listen to new and thoughtful ideas from the youth, but also translate them for the good of the people,ā€ he said.

He added that the Sarawak government has never prevented the younger generation from voicing new ideas that could benefit the State.

ā€œThe youth can voice their opinions through various platforms whether through political parties, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) or social media,ā€ he said.

Projek SUARA is a collaboration project between the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS), and Owl & Badger Group Sdn Bhd.

The programme is being held in Kuching, Miri, Bintulu, and Sibu to provide opportunities for the youth to discuss and map out the direction of Sarawak through a joint interactive experience. ā€” DayakDaily
