ASAJAYA, Dec 31: A body, unclothed and with a broken left leg, was retrieved after it was found floating in the waters downstream of Kampung Sampun Tebun on Sunday.

The body had initially been discovered by villagers on Dec 29 at approximately 12.23pm. They tied it to a tree to prevent it from being carried away by the strong current and waves.

The village chief of Kampung Sampun reported the incident to the Asajaya police station in Kota Samarahan.

In today’s operation, firefighters navigated a 2.5-kilometre stretch by boat to reach the site where the body had been secured.

They waded through a mangrove swamp before finding the body, face down, in a muddy area. Despite heavy rain and rising water levels, the recovery team successfully retrieved the body.

At around 2.30pm, the body was handed over to the police at Kampung Sampun Tebun jetty for further investigation. — DayakDaily
