KUCHING, March 3: National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) has identified several flash flood ‘hotspots’ in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian.
According to Nadma in a Facebook post today, for Kuching, the hotspot locations are in Kampung Stenggang, Kampung Jambu, Kampung Mambong, Kampung Bratan, Kampung Selampit, Kampung Gobielt and surrounding areas.
In Samarahan, the locations are in Kampung Mang, SK Kampung Melayu, Kampung Endap, Kampung Entingan, Kampung Pinang, Taman Desa Ilmu, Kampung Nangka, Kampung Sindang (Kampung Empila, Kampung Tanjung Parang, Kampung Bangka Semong and Kampung Niup and surrounding areas.
For Serian, the locations are Kampung Betong Kenawit, Kampung Soh, Kampung Siniawan Serian, Taman Duranda Mas, Kampung Maang road junction, old Kuching-Serian road, Kampung Duras Mile 16 and 17, old Kuching-Tapah road, Kampung Maang, Kampung Batu Gong road, Kampung Sungai Turong, Kampung Segenam, Kampung Seginam, Kampung Betong Kanowit, Kampung Lintang Baru Panchor, Siburan Bazaar, SK Tanah Merah, SK St. Peter, Simpok, Kampung Maang road access and surrounding areas.
The agency said based on rain forecast information by the Malaysian Meteorology Department (MET Malaysia), the Southeastern Asia-Oceania Flash Flood Guidance System (SAOFFGS) and the JPS (Drainage and Irrigation Department) flood forecast model, there is a risk of flash floods occurring in several locations if heavy rain and significant thunderstorms occur.
It added that the notice, which was issued at 12pm today, is to enable all residents especially in risk areas to be on alert to any possibility of flooding within a 12-hour period.
Nadma also advises the public to follow the instructions of the authorities or flood disaster management agencies.
