KUCHING, Feb 15: New users registering for the MyJPJ app will need to key in the unique eight alphanumeric characters on the back of their driving license beginning today.

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Malaysia director-general Dato Zailani Hashim said this new step is one of several new measures that have been implemented to enhance the security feature and improve user-friendliness on the MyJPJ mobile app.

“JPJ has introduced a third level of security using the last eight characters on the back of one’s driver’s license for JPJeID online registration, in addition to the existing two-tier security requiring a password and TAC code.

“The last eight characters of the driver’s license can also be used to retrieve user accounts. This is to resolve the ‘registered’ issue for users who have registered accounts on JPJ strategic partners’ portals that are integrated with the JPJ system,” he said in a statement today.

Another update is the email reset function for users who have forgotten the email address used or need to update their email online with the eight characters of their driver’s license.

Zailani added that the improvement of these security features came following complaints and feedbacks from netizens about the MyJPJ app and JPJ public portal including concerns that registration requiring identity card number could be misused by irresponsible parties and that some users who have registered for the MySikap or JPJe-bid apps could not use their identity card to sign up for the MyJPJ app.

On Feb 10, Minister of Transport Anthony Loke announced that owners of private vehicles would no longer need to display their road tax or bring their driving license out with the introduction of the digital road tax (e-LKM) and digital Malaysian driving license (e-LMM).

Zailani also gave assurance that the Ministry of Transport will collaborate closely with the Ministry of Communications and Digital to ensure that the cyber security aspect of the MyJPJ app is secured.

The latest security feature updates can be accessed by users in stages for Android, IOS and Huawei operating systems starting today.
