KUCHING, Oct 23: Police have arrested a Malaysian man in his 40s as part of their ongoing investigation into MYAirline Sdn Bhd’s (MYAirline) co-founder and majority shareholder Datuk Allan Goh Hwan Hua and his family for suspected involvement in money laundering.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf stated that the male suspect was arrested at his home in Bangsar this morning and will be transported to the Jinjang central lockup in Kuala Lumpur.

“Investigations are ongoing pertaining to the review of important documents related to i-Serve’s business transactions,” he said in a statement to the media, according to a MalayMail news report.

According to MalayMail, i-Serve or its full name, i-Serve Online Mall Sdn Bhd, is an e-commerce company of which Goh is a shareholder.

In October last year, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) fined i-Serve and six affiliated companies RM50 million for illegal deposit-taking and money laundering.

On Oct 17, police arrested Goh, 57, his wife Neow Ean Lee, 55, and their son Goh Tze Han, 26, at their residence in Shah Alam, Selangor for investigations under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLA) 2001. On Oct 18, police obtained a four-day remand order against them, but Goh’s wife and son were released on Saturday (Oct 21).

Goh, whose detention ends today (Oct 23), will be released on bail, said Ramli who also revealed several assets have been seized including 12 vehicles from two suspects, six luxury watches, eight luxury handbags, two laptops, a CPU, and 10 pieces of jewellery.

Police initiated an investigation into MYAirline following its sudden announcement it was suspending operations at 5.30am on Oct 12.

The low-cost carrier suddenly announced the suspension of its operations due to financial difficulties, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.

On Oct 16, MYAirline said that the suspension of operations was due to the lack of a contingency plan and a last-minute investor pullout, and that passenger refunds could reach an estimated RM22 million and would begin once the airline secures new investors.

On Oct 12, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that MYAirline has provided information indicating that approximately 125,000 passengers have been affected based on ticket sales until March of next year. — DayakDaily
