Murder of 4yo Eric Chang: Forensic report not ready yet, further mention of case set for July 29

KUCHING, June 21: The forensic report of the murder case of four-year-old Eric Chang is still not ready, as the Magistrate’s Court here fixed July 29 for further mention for the prosecution to tender the forensic report.

The caretaker of the deceased child, Wendy Chai Xue Zhen, 37, and her husband Ling Kok Liang, 51, were suspected to be involved in the alleged murder of Eric and were investigated and charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and read together with Section 34 of the same Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.


Ling is led from the courtroom after the proceedings.

They were brought before the Magistrate’s Court here today for the mention of the case and for the prosecution to tender the forensic report in relation to the case.

No pleas were taken before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi pending the post mortem report of the deceased.

Magistrate Zaiton also fixed July 29 for further mention of the case.

They were charged with the murder of Eric at their house in Taman Riverview between March 4 and March 7, 2022.

Both the accused and the parents of Eric Chang were arrested by the police on March 11, 2022 to assist in the investigation.

However, both Eric’s parents were released after a police investigation and the caretaker and her husband were further detained by the police to further investigate the case and have been placed under police remand until today.

According to the investigation, surveillance footage from a restaurant in Muara Tebas  showed both suspects carrying a polystyrene box, which the prosecution suspect to contain the remains of Eric, before dumping it at Muara Tebas Wharf, at about 9pm on March 6.

The body of the boy has still not been found. — DayakDaily
