MIRI, June 21: Several proposals have been put forward to better improve the water mains in the city to prevent the recurrence of burst pipes and lack of water supply in the future.

According to Minister of Transport Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin when met today said, among the proposals are to build separate water mains to supply water to Miri City which should be included in the raw water transfer from Ulu Baram to Miri, which currently is an ongoing project.

“In the long term, Miri Water Supply should be included in Sarawak Water Grid System,” he opined.

“Another proposal that I have put forward is the need for LAKU Management Sdn Bhd to construct water reserve storage tanks, or high level tanks, in major housing areas like Permyjaya Desa Senadin, Tudan, Riam and Taman Tunku areas,” Lee pointed out.

Recently, Miri residents have been suffering for more than a week without water supply following a burst water main at Batu 7, Jalan Miri-Bintulu road.

The pipe had burst not once but twice (on June 10 and June 16) affecting more than 65,000 consumers here.

The water supply only resumed gradually starting from Sunday (June 19) night.

On the incident, Lee added, that a thorough post-mortem would be carry out. ā€” DayakDaily
