KUCHING, Feb 25: Mulu National Park has been left out from the allocation to preserve Unesco World Heritage Sites in Budget 2023.

According to Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when presenting the budget only announced the allocation for Pulau Pinang and Melaka.

“Mulu National Park in Sarawak was given accreditation by Unesco as one of its heritage sites and I know the cost of maintaining that place is quite large.

“So something is missing here,” he told reporters during a press conference held after RTM appreciation night held at a local hotel yesterday night.

Earlier this evening, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a RM50 million allocation to preserve Unesco world heritage sites in Penang and Melaka when tabling Budget 2023 in Parliament.

Meanwhile, Abdul Karim opined the Budget 2023 is good enough to move the economy and develop the country towards the same level as before.

“I see that it is a good budget and it does not hurt the people’s pockets,” he said. — DayakDaily
