KUCHING, Jan 18: Students of Polytechnic Mukah and Polytechnic Metro Betong will be able to enjoy free bus ride for the use of their activities.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, during a press conference, today said the Sarawak government has spent approximately RM600,000 to purchase two buses with a capacity of 25 passengers each for the activities of both institutions of higher learning.

This follows the students’ request which was brought up during the town hall sessions “Berambeh ngan Abang Jo” carnival on July 6, 2019 in Mukah and Dec 15, 2019 in Betong.

Abang Johari said he has agreed to contribute two buses for the use of the two polytechnics for their activities.

He added the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government has provided free bus services in Kuching for students as part of efforts to ease the financial burden of parents.

Abang Johari said the free bus services will be expanded to other cities in Sarawak in the future.

Apart from that, the chief minister said the Sarawak government has also provided incentives to Sarawakian students in Peninsular Malaysia to return to Sarawak during festive seasons.

On preschool education, Abang Johari said the state government through the Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Ministry has taken over Sedidik kindergarten from the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) to ensure the preschool education in Sarawak is developed in a holistic and structured manner. —DayakDaily
