KUCHING, Mar 9: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has the prerogative to appoint his team in the cabinet, said Sarawak deputy chief minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing.
Responding to Muhyiddin’s cabinet line-up announced today, the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president believed that as the “captain” of a ship, the prime minister has the right to decide on who shall be his “crew” and in this case, the Muhyiddin had taken into account the number of representatives each Perikatan Nasional ally has in the Dewan Rakyat.
“The bigger picture of what Malaysia needs must come first. Parties’ wishes and wants are secondary to the prime minister’s rights in the formation of government in a democratic system,” Masing said in a statement.
Eleven Sarawakian MPs were appointed to the new cabinet, with nine from the state-ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) were given seven, followed by one each from Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and PRS.
Two other Sarawakian MPs represented Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu). — DayakDaily
