KUCHING, March 3: Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association (SDGA) president Gary Ningkan urged Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to select cabinet members who would serve for the benefit of the country and its citizens.
According to Gary in a press statement, amidst recent uncertainties and threats which are distracting citizens from more concerning issues plaguing the country and affecting the economy badly, it is important that the right personnel be appointed to lead government ministries and agencies.
He opined a talent mismatch at the top can be counterproductive and this will affect the citizens’ wellbeing. Thus, SDGA hoped to see appointments of industry experts — for example, technocrats, professionals, academicians — even if it means crossing the political divide, to ensure that the country will sail through the storm safely.
Gary believed that only by accomplishing this could greater confidence amongst all Malaysians be built.
“The new government should look into the importance of growth for small-medium enterprises (SMEs), as this will trigger (growth in) the job market and create solutions for worrying unemployment rates among the youth demographic and B40.
“Add on the fact that 60 per cent of new bankruptcy cases in Malaysia are from the under-44 demographic, young Malaysians are facing troubled times,” he noted, adding affordable housing and healthcare are essential and also need to be addressed at the very top level.
Gary also claimed that there is an apparent mismatch between salary and cost of living, especially in major cities, with many young Malaysians unable to afford homes and insurance. If this trend continues, Malaysia will see greater talent drain happening, he added.
Meanwhile, he also conveyed his congratulation to Muhyiddin on his appointment as Prime Minister.
He opined that Muhyiddin is a seasoned statesman, and wished him all the best in leading the country. — DayakDaily
