KUCHING, Nov 25: Perikatan Nasional (PN) will play a check and balance role in Parliament, said its chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

In a short statement posted on his social media pages, Muhyiddin said with the Federal government led by Pakatan Harapan (PH), PN will play a check and balance role in Parliament to bring the people’s voices in line with Malaysia’s parliamentary democracy.

“Moving forward, PN will continue our fighting for the rakyat’s wellbeing and the country’s prosperity, based on the principles of ‘Caring, Clean and Stable’,” he said.

Muhyiddin also congratulated Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his appointment as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia.

It was reported yesterday that Muhyiddin has challenged Anwar to prove his legitimacy to form the new Federal government by revealing the number of support of lawmakers as well as the number of statutory declarations he had obtained.

With that, Anwar in his first press conference at night after his swearing-in ceremony as the Prime Minister, said that he will put himself before a vote of confidence on the first day the Parliament sits on Dec 19.

Commenting on the new unity government, Anwar added there was no reason to worry about the legitimacy as it has obtained the support not only from PH which won 82 seats in the 15th General Election (GE15), but also 30 members of Parliament (MPs) from Barisan Nasional (BN) as well as 23 MPs from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

In addition, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has also announced that it has agreed to join the federal unity government.

This signifies that Anwar now has the backing of a two-thirds majority in Parliament, from PH, BN, GPS, GRS and some other parties such as Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM). — DayakDaily
