KUCHING, Aug 16: Interim prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has lost the majority support from Members of Parliament (MP) to become the premier in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) led-government.
As a result, Muhyiddin during a live telecast confirmed that he has tendered his resignation as the prime minister to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Riāayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah earlier this afternoon and said there is no need for a vote of confidence to be tabled at the Parliament.
āDuring my audience, I have submitted my resignation letter as prime minister and the whole Cabinet under Article 43(4) of the Federal Constitution because I have lost the majority support of MPs.
āThis means the Cabinet and I have resigned.
āAlthough earlier on, there was a proposal for my validity as the prime minister to be decided in Parliament.
āNonetheless, 15 Umno MPs have withdrawn their support for me and the proposals for cross-party bipartisan cooperation was rejected by the opposition parties.
āClearly, these are indications that I have lost the majority support and therefore there is no need for a vote of confidence as prime minister to be decided in Parliament,ā he said during a live telecast through Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) at Kuala Lumpur today.
Muhyiddin who is Pagoh MP said his resignation as the prime minister was in accordance with the Federal Constitution. ā DayakDaily
