KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has instructed the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and take necessary action against those who flouted the mandatory quarantine period and the standard operating procedures (SOP).
He said the federal government viewed seriously the alleged breach of quarantine rules by Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali upon his return from Turkey on July 7.
“The Perikatan Nasional government stands firmly by the principle that no one is above the law.
“Therefore, I hand it to the authorities to take the necessary action,” he said in a statement today.
Muhyiddin’s statement referred to Mohd Khairuddin who did not complete his 14-day quarantine upon returning from overseas.
It was reported that Mohd Khairuddin showed up in Parliament on July 13, eight days short of the full quarantine period.
However, Mohd Khairuddin defended himself by saying that he had tested negative thrice since returning from Turkey.
Last Saturday, the Health Ministry announced that Mohd Khairuddin was fined RM1,000 on July 7 but the public viewed the fine as too lenient.
Apart from that, Mohd Khairuddin also issued an apology while promising that he would donate five months’ of his salary to a fund to fight Covid-19. —DayakDaily
