KUCHING, Sept 12: Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) president and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has decided to withdraw his support from the unity government.
The party has only one seat in the Dewan Rakyat, but its exit has resulted in the government losing its two-thirds majority.
The unity government under Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, currently holds 147 Parliament seats out of 222, which is one less seat to form a two-thirds majority (148 seats).
In a video clip uploaded on his Facebook page yesterday (Sept 11), Syed Saddiq said his decision followed the party’s dissatisfaction with the abrupt halt of Deputy Prime Minister Dato Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s trial on corruption charges.
“Muda will form a ‘third force’ in the opposition bloc as a sign of protest because the government today has dropped 47 corruption charges. This is a beginning towards normalising corruption.
“We cannot and will not tolerate this unprincipled move,” he said. — DayakDaily
