Muaythai tourney in Bau on July 27-28

KUCHING, July 18: Combat sports fans and enthusiasts are invited to witness two days of exciting fights at the Bau Muay Thai Championship on July 27-28 at the Bau Bus Terminal.

A total of 33 fights have been scheduled over the two days, and entry is free, according to the organiser, Bau Muaythai Club (BMC).

Supported by Persatuan Muaythai Sarawak and Persatuan Muaythai Kuching, BMC president Herman Barin said the objective of this event was to promote the sport to the local community in Bau.

“This is the third such event in Bau. A total of 33 fights (66 fighters) have been scheduled across the two days,” he said in the statement.

On July 27, the competition is scheduled to start from 1-6pm, followed by a one-hour dinner break. Fights will resume at 7pm until 10pm.

Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol is expected to open the competition on Saturday evening.

The following day, there will be an arm-wrestling competition from 10am to 12pm followed by a one-hour lunch break. The arm-wrestling competition will resume at 1pm and is scheduled to finish by 6pm.

Meanwhile, the Muaythai fights are scheduled to take place between one and 6pm before a dinner break. The fights will resume at 7pm until 10pm.

Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep is expected to grace the closing ceremony.

Herman expressed gratitude to Mordi for his support and provision of fund to host this year’s event.

He revealed that Henry has been supportive of BMC since its inception. The Tasik Biru assemblyman also helped to initiate the formation of the club, as well as instrumental in finding the club a bigger place to train at Tondong Bazaar.

BMC will be sending seven young fighters to represent Bau in the championship, including two female fighters.
