KUCHING, July 27: Three landmark bridges in Sarawak and the access road to the southern area of Kuching International Airport have secured spots on the shortlist for the REAM Road Engineering Excellence Award 2026, highlighting the State’s growing reputation in infrastructure delivery.
In a press release, the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak) said the shortlisted projects comprise Muara Lassa Bridge, Marudi Bridge, Kemena Bridge in Sebauh and the access road to the southern area of Kuching International Airport.
The department’s director Datu Dr Cassidy Morris presented all four projects to the award’s evaluation panel as part of the judging process for the prestigious recognition.
Organised by the Road Engineering Association of Malaysia (REAM), the REAM Road Engineering Excellence Award recognises outstanding road engineering projects that demonstrate excellence in planning, design, construction, innovation, safety, sustainability, and their contribution to economic and social development.
JKR Sarawak described the shortlist as a significant achievement for the department, reflecting its capability in managing, supervising and delivering quality, resilient infrastructure projects that bring meaningful benefits to the people.
The department said the recognition also underscores its continued commitment to developing infrastructure that not only meets current needs but also supports Sarawak’s long-term development agenda.
According to JKR Sarawak, the achievement is the result of the expertise, dedication and close collaboration of all parties involved in ensuring that each project was implemented in accordance with established engineering, safety and quality standards.
The department added that it remains committed to spearheading the implementation of sustainable, innovative and high-impact infrastructure projects to improve the wellbeing of the people while strengthening Sarawak’s socioeconomic development. — DayakDaily
