KUCHING, Sept 12: Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) president and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s decision to withdraw support from the unity government is a betrayal of the people’s mandate, says Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Batang Lupar chief Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh.
He said Syed Saddiq’s move can be seen as sabotaging the unity government’s efforts to restore the country’s harmony and economy.
“His excuse was that he accused the Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim of involvement in freeing Deputy Prime Minister Dato Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (from corruption charges) when the prime minister is not involved at all and the latter has even clarified this.
“However, Syed Saddiq continues to make defamation and lies,” Abang Zulkifli said in a statement today.
He said that Syed Saddiq’s victory in the Muar parliamentary seat in the recent general election was due to Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) kindness and tolerance to give way for him to win.
“The support of PH voters had resulted in his victory.
“However, due to Syed Saddiq’s arrogance, he could not differentiate between diamond and glass. Personal interests and the support of a small group behind him, caused him to forget himself,” he added.
He further called on Muda Sarawak members and supporters to not support Syed Saddiq, saying the latter had no sense of direction apart from politicking for his own benefits.
“In the context of Sarawak, we need to support the unity government and the Sarawak government so that we can succeed in the negotiations to reclaim our rights under Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
