M’sian, Indonesian forces’ joint patrol thwarts 10 illegal immigrants’ attempt to enter S’wak via Biawak

KUCHING, June 3: The Malaysian Army (TDM) today has successfully thwarted an attempt of ten illegal immigrants to enter Sarawak near the Malaysia-Indonesia Joint Post (GABMA) of the Biawak area today.

According to a statement issued by the 1st Infantry Division, at 12.30pm, a joint team of TDM and Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) was on patrol duty at Biawak’s GABMA near the ‘lorong tikus’ (rat lanes), which is about 200 metres from the Indonesian border.

“While carrying out the patrol, members of the Army patrol came across ten illegal immigrants walking from the direction of the Indonesian border.

“Members of the Army patrol have detained and examined the ten illegal immigrants and found out that they were en route to Malaysia to work on a farm under a contract.

“The arrest and inspection of ten illegal immigrants aged 18 to 30 revealed no prohibited or dangerous items,” the statement read.

It went on to say that the total estimated value of the items inspected was RM 11,430, which included cash, mobile phones, wallets, and luggage.

“The ten illegal immigrants have been brought to the national border for deportation.

“A police report has been made at the Lundu Police Station to determine if the eviction action was carried out correctly in accordance with current regulations.”

Accordingly, Major General Datuk Mohamed Fauzi Kamis, Commander of the 1st Division, commended all Army members under his command.

“TDM will continue to strengthen controls at the Malaysian-Indonesian border to defend the country’s sovereignty from any sort of illegal immigration invasion, smuggling activities, or cross-border crime,” it said. — DayakDaily
