KUCHING, Jan 20: The Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA) has expressed its readiness to assist Sarawak in realising its aspiration to emerge as a new semiconductor industry hub, in line with the State’s strong potential and strategic advantages.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), MSIA president Dato Seri Wong Siew Hai said the association has taken the initiative to lead an industry mission to Sarawak to provide direct exposure to industry players on the State’s capabilities and to build confidence among companies to explore long-term investment opportunities.
“MSIA feels that we have a responsibility to support the country and the state of Sarawak, which aspires to become one of the important semiconductor hubs at the global level.
“The opportunity is certainly there to be realised,” he said when met by the media after MSIA’s discussion with Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan here on Monday (Jan 19).
Wong said direct engagement with industry players through site visits and engagement sessions is crucial to ensure a comprehensive understanding of Sarawak’s ecosystem, including infrastructure readiness, energy supply, and support from the Sarawak government.
At the same time, he stressed that the rapid growth of the global semiconductor industry presents wide opportunities for Sarawak to actively participate in the industry value chain, contributing to the economic development of both the state and the country.
“MSIA is ready to share the industry experience and expertise we have to support Sarawak’s aspiration to emerge as a new semiconductor industry hub,” he added. — DayakDaily
