KUCHING, Aug 2: The enforcement team from Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) took decisive action yesterday by removing and confiscating a total of 16 advertisements and billboards that had been erected within its jurisdiction without the necessary permits.
These unauthorised advertising materials, according to MPP in a post on its social media today, not only marred the visual landscape but also posed potential hazards to passing traffic.
MPP’s proactive response was prompted by public complaints, and the Ops Cabut initiative will persistently pursue the removal of all unlawful advertisements and billboards, it said.
Such actions are in direct violation of the Local Authority Ordinance (Advertisement) By-Laws 2012.
MPP emphasised that these advertising displays, predominantly situated along major thoroughfares, obstruct sightlines at intersections and traffic signal points.
The recent operation was executed primarily in commercial areas, encompassing Genesis Park, Green Acres Park, and spanning the Batu Kawa-Malihah and Malihah-Matang traffic light junctions.
MPP issued a stern caution, indicating that companies, business establishments, and individuals found breaching the by-laws could incur penalties of up to RM5,000, coupled with imprisonment for a maximum of six months.
The local authority also advised parties who wish to erect or display advertisements or billboards to apply for permits and obtain approvals from the council beforehand to avoid legal repercussions against both the promotional content and the proprietors involved. — DayakDaily
