KUCHING, April 12: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will come up with a policy on the proper transportation of earth and building materials, particularly to housing estates.

MPP chairman Tan Kai said the council at the moment, does not have a clear policy on the matter.

“At the moment, the council doesn’t have a policy on how to transport earth and building materials within the jurisdiction.

“So we will come up with a clear policy pertaining to the matter,” Tan Kai told a press conference at his office today.

He earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) at MPP headquarters.

He did not reveal when such policy will take place.

Earlier Tan was asked about the heavy lorries passing through Arang Road Lorong 23, which drew complaints from residents.

Residents there were concerned that such lorries were spilling earth onto the road and causing cracks to form on the surface.

According to Tan Kai, the problem was caused by heavy lorries carrying earth to a construction site.

“In the process of developing the land, site clearing and bringing in of soil occurred which resulted in soil spilling out from the lorries,” he explained.

He, however, said that works on the site had stopped, adding that the MPP engineering team was visiting the site today and will report to the council. — DayakDaily
