KUCHING, April 1: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has been urged to redraw parking lines or erect signs after re-tarring any road surface to avoid any confusion.

Without parking lines or appropriate signs, confusion may arise among the police in issuing illegal parking tickets and among the public, who may park illegally.

Special Assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, Michael Kong Feng Nian, said a Kota Sentosa resident was recently compounded for parking his vehicle behind a business premise at Lorong Liu Shan Bang 4B.

Kong said MPP had re-tarred the said spot. After seeing that there was no ‘yellow line’ and/or ‘no parking’ signs to indicate that parking was not allowed, the resident went ahead and parked his car at the said spot.

“However, he (the resident) was then issued with a traffic summon on the charge of obstruction of traffic,” said Kong in a statement today.

This move did not sit well with Kong as he said the area had always been a parking spot for the public before it was re-tarred by MPP.

This, he said, can also be proven by a recent picture captured from Google Maps confirming that prior to the re-tarring exercise, the location in which the vehicle was parked was specifically allocated as car parking lots.

“If indeed any vehicles parked along this road will go on to be an obstruction of traffic, then it makes no sense that the local council and traffic police would have allowed vehicles to park here previously.

“I have brought this individual and file an appeal with the police department seeking the said traffic offence dated March 16, 2022 at 9.43am be rescinded accordingly,” he added. – DayakDaily
