KUCHING, Feb 5: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has been urged to address the deteriorating road conditions along the Batu Kawah Old Town to Malihah Jaya stretch.

Michael Kong, special assitant to Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, raised the issue following community feedback on the poor state of the roads, particularly in Jalan Segobang, Jalan Kampung Tengah Sungai, and Jalan Sejijak.

“After visiting the site myself, I can confirm that the roads are riddled with potholes, cracks, and sunken sections, creating a serious safety hazard for road users.

“Additionally, there is an unmarked bump along the road, lacking proper signage to warn motorists. This poses a grave danger, especially at night,” he said in a statement today.

Despite multiple complaints from the public, Kong noted that the roads have yet to be attended to, leading to increasing frustration and risks for motorists.

He also pointed out that members of the public have witnessed MPP contractors marking potholes and other issues, but no substantial action has been taken to resolve these problems.

“Councils are quick to impose penalties and interest on taxpayers for late payment of assessment rates. It is only fair that they fulfill their responsibilities promptly when issues are brought to their attention,” he added.

Calling on the council to act urgently, Kong stressed that public safety must always be the top priority, and any further delay in addressing this issue is unacceptable. — DayakDaily
