KUCHING, April 19: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has proven to be the best local authority in Sarawak, notably bagging the best local government award from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Local Government with a score of 95.69 per cent in March this year.

Miri City Council (MCC) came in second in Sarawak with a score of 94.58 per cent.

For that, former MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang said he is proud and satisfied that he left the Council on a high note especially with the Council being named the top among all local authorities in Sarawak.

“Today, MPP is very well structured and with a good backbone. Everything is in place and whoever takes over from me, their jobs will not be difficult.

“I must thank Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, for their trust in me and working together over the years,” he said in an exclusive interview on DayakDaily’s Spot On programme yesterday (April 18).

In addition, he shared that MPP also won the Gold Award for the Local Authorities Category in the Premier of Sarawak Environmental Award 2022.

Having served in the local government for 36 years starting off as an engineer to being appointed the MPP chairman in 2010 before recently stepping down, Lo said his time at MPP has been focused on serving the community.

“I enjoyed every moment of it and I must praise the heads of departments and staff who are all very accomplished and competent individuals, and they are the ones who have made the council one of the best in Sarawak,” he said.

Lo reiterated that the achievements of the council were not solely attributed to his leadership, but rather to the dedication and hard work of the MPP staff as a whole.

“MPP staff have been instrumental. It is people that make things work and people that make an organisation.

“We have accomplished a lot and I’m happy to leave the council with these best achievements,” he added. — DayakDaily
