KUCHING, July 20: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang, deputy chairman Senator Dato Ahmad Ibrahim and 26 councillors took their oath today at the MPP headquarters here as their terms of office were extended until the end of this year.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Dato Sri Sim Kui Hian was present to witness the swearing-in ceremony which also saw new councillor Chen Chee Joong sworn in to replace Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.
Â
Lo, in his speech, expressed hope MPP could reset and accelerate its business and blueprint for the next six months now that Sarawak has embarked on the recovery phase after more than two years of Covid-19 pandemic disruptions.Â
“MPP represents a wide range of constituents, from domestic workers to the largest corporation in this part of the city.
“Every constituency deserves equity and fairness under the law. That is our job, to implement and execute this responsibility,” he said.Â
Lo also revealed that the council implemented some 230 projects every year and as such, it is important for MPP including its staff and councillors to execute their responsibility efficiently and serve every constituency fairly.
“We work together in a team to achieve all these goals. When we stand and work with one heart, we achieve more. When we are divided, we achieve none.Â
“Therefore, I always emphasised working together as a team. I am very fortunate to have good team players at MPP as all current councillors and staff are working very hard on the ground,” he said.
Lo, who is also the Batu Kitang assemblyman, stressed that unison and teamwork are vital to ensure that MPP policies achieve their targets in a timely manner.Â
“We will always strive for better service so that our stakeholders and our customers will enjoy the benefit,” he added. — DayakDaily
