KUCHING, Dec 31: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has successfully implemented a total of 103 Rural Transformation Programme (RTPs) projects in the year 2023, amounting to RM16.315 million.
MPP chairman Tan Kai also pointed out that this total exceeds the achievements of 2022, when 73 projects worth RM12.999 million were implemented.
“Each State YB (assemblyman) is entitled to a RM5 million RTP grant per year. The head of the RTP project implementation team is the Kuching Resident’s Office, which includes selection of contractors, whereas local councils, Public Works Department (JKR), Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), and other utility agencies are the technical implementation team,” he said in a press release issued today.
Furthermore, Tan Kai stated that the local council’s main source of revenue is assessment rates, which are used to provide services to residents such as garbage collection, street lighting, sewerage treatment, and road and drain maintenance.
“The development, upgrading of facilities, and community development very much depend on government grants, with RTP grants being one of the most important financial resources,” he added. — DayakDaily
