KUCHING, Jan 12: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) urges the Public Works Department (JKR) to get its contractors to restart working on traffic light project at three Kota Samarahan roundabouts as soon as possible.
Its chairman Dato Peter Minos said the public have been venting their frustration at the council over the lack of progress of the project since the earth-breaking ceremony was done by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg over a year ago.
He added the traffic jams at Kota Samarahan have gotten worse by the day especially during peak hours and the current rainy season and thus needed to be addressed urgently.
“The public in Samarahan cannot accept the project delays and now the sudden stoppage of work.
“The massive traffic jams at peak work hours at the three roundabouts are getting worse now with the rainy season.
“Just imagine traffic jams from five to eight both morning and evening. Imagine taking up to three hours to drive through the jams from Kota Samarahan to Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Petrajaya.
“The project delays and procrastination have now morphed into one contentious public issue and MPKS can no longer keep quiet and unfairly bear daily criticism and anger,” he said in a statement today.
Seeing that the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak has improved vastly and the State is currently under Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) with most activities allowed, Minos appealed to JKR to get the contractors to resume work on the traffic light projects and complete them as soon as possible. — DayakDaily
