KUCHING, July 26: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) will strengthen its enforcement and surveillance at Kota Samarahan public areas on the compliance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) by the public.
Its chairman Datuk Peter Minos said he has directed the council’s enforcement team and the public health team to conduct more inspections at public areas in Kota Samarahan.
“Because of some apprehension of Covid-19 spreading in (Kota) Samarahan, I have directed that from Monday onwards, MPKS enforcement team and also the public health team to do more vigorous watching out and inspections at the public markets, shops, malls, coffee shops, eating places and so forth.
“That is, to ensure the public must strictly abide by the rules and observe the Recovery Movement Control Order’s (RMCO) SOP.
“MPKS does not want anyone to be complacent and go easy with the rules. We will go together with the police wherever and when necessary.
“There will be repeated advice and reprimands for some. The adamantly recalcitrant ones, action will be taken against them,” he said in a press statement today.
He said the people in Samarahan are getting jittery and worried that the Covid-19 situation in Samarahan would be getting worse as there were few cases re-emerged recently.
Minos added that the best one can do to prevent the spread and transmission of the virus is to wear face masks when going outdoors, do social distancing and practice good personal hygiene.
He also advised the public to avoid any crowded places if possible.
He hoped that the authorities will be able to curb the Covid-19 by the end of the year so that life will get back to normal. —DayakDaily
