KUCHING, March 8: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) is taking a proactive approach to solve the flash flood problem at Taman Univista, Samarahan.

MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos said a special meeting was held with the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) and Land and Survey Department last Thursday (March 4) to resolve the flash flood problem.

Following a site visit recently, Minos noted the drainage system there will need to be enhanced.

“It looks like there must be big concrete drains of adequate size and depth running from roundabout G3 opposite Intan to roundabout G2 opposite the Unimas (Universiti Malaysia Sarawak) side.

“The drains are those on the right to Intan in front of Taman Univista.

“MPKS will really want the drainage betterment to be undertaken soonest, as soon as the technical parts and funding are sorted out,” he said in a statement.

Minos also hoped that JKR would soon check and study the drains that were flooded, seek the funding and then start working on improving the drainage system.

He also stressed that other areas in Kota Samarahan which have been affected by the recent floods were also not forgotten.

Minos said MPKS will work on the area which was worst which is Taman Univista.

He disclosed that other areas affected by the recent flash floods in Kota Samarahan were Kg Tg Budong, Jalan Mohd Musa between Bukit Berangan and Kg Merdang Lumut and parts of Taman Samarindah. — DayakDaily
