KUCHING, March 11: As Muslims in Sarawak gear up to begin fasting tomorrow (March 12), a Chinese assemblyman is already giving away ‘bubur lambuk’ as a special gift of encouragement to them.

Kota Samarahan Municipal Council chairman Dato Peter Minos explained that he was driving his family to Kampung Haji Baki’s community hall enroute to Kampung Semeba yesterday (March 10) when they were stopped by Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang who was busy giving away ‘bubur lambuk’.

“What a big and pleasant surprise—a YB and a Dato sponsoring and physically handing over bubur lambuk to the public. I was happily impressed.

“Lo’s action means that he is someone who cares for his constituents and respect their religion in light of the upcoming Ramadan,” he said in a statement recently.

Minos also said that such gestures as shown by Lo is common in Sarawak, and also symbolised the religious harmony and understanding among its citizens.

“We treat each other simply as Sarawakians, not bothering what race or religion others belong to. We must keep it this way.

“It is the best way for us to be united and thus to develop our State socially and in economic way. It is a great way of surviving a very challenging and difficult world,” he added. — DayakDaily
