LUNDU, Feb 28: Mount Pueh has been nominated as Sarawak’s first Unesco Biosphere Reserve through the Sarawak Forestry Department.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang emphasised that the nomination of Mount Pueh Biosphere Reserve is not solely based on its scenic beauty but on its deeper significance as a link between humans and nature, where conservation and socio-economic development can progress in harmony.

“It aims to conserve biodiversity while fostering sustainable development,” he said during the Public Awareness Campaign (CEPA) at the Unesco Biosphere Site 2025 in Kampung Pasir Hulu on Thursday (Feb 27).

Billy noted that the campaign aims to raise public awareness of environmental conservation efforts in Lundu District while strengthening cooperation between agencies and stakeholders.

“I encourage everyone to participate and gain valuable knowledge throughout this campaign.

“By supporting the nomination of this Biosphere Reserve, we contribute to global efforts to protect biodiversity, promote sustainable practices, and ensure the long-term preservation of this area’s natural beauty and resources,” he added.
