KUCHING, Nov 29: Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) is proposing that the federal government delegate more authority to its agencies in Sarawak to facilitate and improve efficiency of various processes and services.

Its minister, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, revealed this during his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

He cited vehicle type application approval, exemption of road tax fee application approval, and the Driving Institute Instructor Certificate (SPIM) application approval as examples.

“This is important to ensure better coordination in terms of the provision of services and enforcement of transport laws and regulations. We must ensure that these agencies continue to upgrade these services and expand to new areas in line with the current development throughout Sarawak,” he said.

The transport sector is under the purview of the federal government. MOTS works closely with the Ministry of Transport Malaysia, Road Transport Department (JPJ), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Puspakom, Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board (CVLB), Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros), Marine Department, Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom), Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia (CAAM), and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB). — DayakDaily
