MIRI, Dec 3: A total 6,867 summonses were settled during the Miri Traffic and Public Order Department’s Customers’ Day, where discounts of up to 50 per cent were offered for various types of traffic offences.

City police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said fines totalling RM725,200 were collected during the two-day period, where most of the summonses were related to speeding and obstructing traffic flow.

Nine booths and 23 traffic police personnel were on duty during the event on Dec 1 and 2.

The counters were opened from 8.30am to 4.30pm at Miri police headquarters in Jalan Miri-Pujut here.

“The response was overwhelming due to discounts of up to 50 per cent,” said Lim.

He added that it formed part of their initiative to encourage traffic offenders to settle their summonses. — DayakDaily
