Motorcylist dies, 2 injured in Miri road crash

MIRI, Nov 27: A car which is believed to have made an illegal U-turn on Thursday night crashed onto a motorcycle, injuring a teenage pillion rider while the rider was pronounced dead in hospital.

The crash occurred nearby Miri Public Park at Jalan Bulatan Park around 10.10pm.


It was learnt that the car driven by a 24-year-old female driver and the motorcycle were heading towards Piasau when suddenly the car was believed to have made an illegal U-turn.

According to Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, following the incident, both the rider and his pillion rider were thrown off their motorcycle.

“The rider identified as Ferguson Johnito, 21, died while receiving treatment at Miri Hospital while his pillion rider, Franklin Sidi, 18, sustained injuries on his body and legs,” said Lim.

Meanwhile, the female driver sustained light injuries.

Prior to the crash, the deceased and his pilllion rider was heading home from their workplace.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
