Motorcyclist killed, pillion rider severely injured in Jalan Green crash

KUCHING, Sept 23: A 22-year-old male motorcyclist was killed in an accident while his pillion rider, a 21-year-old woman, was seriously injured in an accident at Jalan Green here on Monday (Sept 22).

In a statement, Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the accident occurred at around 1.05am when the driver of a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), a 22-year-old woman, lost control while heading from Jalan Stapok towards the Waterfront.

“The driver of the MPV veered into the opposite lane and collided with the motorcycle that was coming from the direction of Jalan Green,” he said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, while the pillion rider was rushed by ambulance to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.

Police have detained the MPV driver to assist in investigations, which are being carried out under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
