Motorcyclist killed in hit-and-run incident, Sibu police hunt for culprit

SIBU, Nov 28: Police are appealing to eye-witness to come forward with information on a hit and run accident that killed a 29-year old motorcyclist at Jalan Salim-Stabau today.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit believed that the victim, Nur Hafifi Hafis Zakaria, 29, was hit by another vehicle at the accident which occurred at about 5.30am today.

The victim was then riding his Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle from Farley Supermarket and was heading towards the Durin Bridge.

“The victim was believed to have been hit by another vehicle whose type and registration number are not yet certain. As a result of the collision, he succumbed to serious head injuries and a broken leg,” said ACP Stanley.

He said efforts to locate the vehicle that hit the victim is still ongoing.

“I appeal to any eyewitnesses who have seen the incident to contact the Investigating Officer, Inspector Mohd Rahmat at 01131627137,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. -DayakDaily
