Motorcyclist killed in crash with MPV on Jalan Persisiran Pantai Miri

KUCHING, Mar 17: A 43-year-old local motorcyclist was killed in a fatal road accident involving a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) at KM14 of Jalan Persisiran Pantai in Miri at about 1am today.

Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said police received a report on the incident, which involved a 40 -year-old local man driving the MPV.

He said initial investigations at the scene found that the MPV driver who was travelling from Bintulu to Miri was believed to have lost control of the vehicle before veering into the opposite lane and colliding with the motorcyclist, who was heading from Miri towards Bakong.

“The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, while the MPV driver sustained injuries to his legs and face and is currently receiving treatment at Miri Hospital,” he said in a statement.

He added that the site of the accident was dark and lacked street lighting, which was among the conditions noted at the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, members of the public with information on the incident are urged to contact the investigating officer Insp Nor Afifah Nordin at 019-5264640 or 085-430479, or report to the nearest police station.
