MIRI, March 18: A 53-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a collision with a car while changing lanes at KM822.1 of the Pan Borneo Highway near Jalan Suai, Batu Niah, at about 4.30pm on Tuesday (March 17).
Miri District Police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the accident involved a car driven by a 36-year-old local man travelling from Miri towards Bintulu.
“Preliminary investigations at the scene found that the motorcyclist had suddenly moved from the left lane to the right lane in an attempt to enter a U-turn route towards the Bintulu–Miri direction, before being struck by the oncoming car.
“The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the car did not sustain any injuries,” he said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police are urging members of the public who witnessed the incident or have information to come forward to assist in investigations by contacting traffic investigating officer Nor Afifah Nordin at 019-5264640 or 085-430479, or by visiting the nearest police station.
