Motorcyclist killed, eight-year-old son injured in collision with van

SIBU, Nov 21: A 38-year-old man died, while his eight-year-old son suffered minor injuries, after their motorcycle collided with a van at Jalan Ding Lik Kong here yesterday.

Sibu District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the deceased was riding together with his son when the incident happened at 9.22pm.

“Initial investigation found that the van was heading towards Jalan Ding Lik Kong from Sungai Merah market, after making a right turn at the junction prior to the incident.

“The deceased, together with his son, was coming from Bukit Aup heading towards Sungai Merah market when they collided with the van,” he said in a statement today.

The deceased was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and the son was taken to Sibu Hospital for treatment.

“The van driver was unharmed and was also taken to Sibu Hospital for blood test,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 112 of Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
