KUCHING, Dec 5: The federal government will table a motion for the payment of emoluments for 2023 in the upcoming Parliament session on Dec 19 and Dec 20, while Budget 2023 is still under review.

Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the emoluments budget has to be passed first. Otherwise, salaries (for civil servants) cannot be paid in January.

“However, Budget 2023 will be reviewed. I think most of it is acceptable. Certain quarters assumed that we were against all of it, but no.

“The good proposals, we will continue. But of course, we will give room for the Ministry of Finance and the Cabinet next to provide their input on what we can improve,” he said in a special press conference in Putrajaya today.

Earlier, Economy Minister Mohd Rafizi Ramli, in a press conference broadcast on social media, announced that the Budget 2023 would be tabled earliest by January next year.

The previous federal government tabled a budget amounting to RM372 billion on Oct 7, but the budget was never approved following the dissolution of Parliament three days later.

Also present during the press conference today were Deputy Prime Ministers Dato Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, as well as Chief Secretary to the Government, Mohd Zuki Ali. — DayakDaily
