SERIAN, Oct 13: Ministry of Transport (MOT) and Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) are teaming up with Serian District Council (SDC) to look after Serian Lake.
Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the teamwork is with regards to the lake’s cleanliness and safety for holding water sports activities in the lake.
“For this lake (in Serian), it is gaining popularity and we were made to understand that many water sports activities are already in the pipeline.
“So, we have decided to assist SDC to see what we can do to ensure the cleanliness of the lake and safety aspects for water sports activities is well attended to,” Lee said today during a visit to the lake.
He added that among the activities are canoeing and jet skiing.
Four marker buoys were placed in the lake in conjunction with the visit. Lee was accompanied by SRB chairman Dr Murni Suhaili, MOT permanent secretary Dato Alice Jawan Empaling and SDC secretary Constantine Gerald David Jonas, among others.
Lee said with the marker buoys in place, the speed limit of any motor activity on the water is limited to five knots.
Lee said the lake is under the care of SDC and that working together with the council was compulsory, adding that SRB will consistently monitor the situation at the lake. ā DayakDaily
